Newport Elementary School Teacher Allison Smith

Newport Elementary School Teacher Allison Smith proudly displays the grant “check” she received through the Bright Ideas program sponsored by Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative. Looking on are Principal Beth Lanning and CCEC Director of Community Relations Bill Ward.

Thirty-one educators from 15 schools in Carteret and Craven counties earned grant funding from Carteret-Craven  Electric Cooperative for innovative teaching projects that will enhance their students’ learning.

These educators earned a total of $19,316 in Bright Ideas grants for projects expected to touch more than 3,757 students from kindergarten through high school, and in all subject areas, from raising chickens to aeronautical engineering, to physical education and more.

Since inception, Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative (CCEC) has issued close to $280,000 in grants impacting more than 56,000 area students. The Bright Ideas program is funded through North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives. The Carteret-Craven Electric Foundation provides additional funding for the grants to educators from schools in CCEC’s service territory.
